The internet went out at my place a few months ago for a whole weekend so I spent 6-7 hours in Costa using their free Wifi. lol most boring weekend ever! Felt like I was back in the dark ages before the internet was so readily avialable.

Back in the dark ages is about right, Anna!! Isn't it terrible how reliant we are on the internet 😂😂😂

I use voice commands to ask Siri to set timers. No fingers involved

This is genius - thank you so much CL for that suggestion! It never occurred to me that Siri could set alarms too... I tried it and it worked. Yet another lazy-assed thing to add to my arsenal!! 😜

It's for some reason something not well-known, but I saw my sister do it and picked it up from her. Now I'm spreading the word!

I was glad when the text took a turn and you also appreciated the upsides of a few days without internet. Because elsewise I would have felt like an escapist since I coped pretty well with having no internet for 3 weeks last December. But of course it is a different story when you don't depend on it to earn your living. And maybe the experience improves the longer the broken internet lasts as one discovers more and more pleasures and hobbies from the age before internet? :D

Frieda it was actually NICE not to have wifi in some ways: it was nice not to be distracted by bingewatching anything and having to get up off our arses to switch off lights, etc. And to read books more and play CDs and DVDs was lovely, it felt really old school. But the fact that my work was so badly affected was the worst bit... the rest I could live without. WFH is impossible without internet!

This made me laugh and grit my teeth in sympathy in equal measure, Catherine! Gawd I cannot contemplate how I would cope with no Internet for that long, as my work relies on it too... And my son without access to For Honor on his Xbox.... Does not bear thinking about 🤣

Oh gawd at least I don't have any teenagers at home to moan about no wifi, Lizzie!! It does make me wonder how the other affected people in the area with teens coped, hehe

Hi Catherine, it's actually quite scary just how dependant we are on technology. We are the same...Alexa controls the lights, our heating is reliant on WiFi, my diary is on my phone, emails, our CCTV, most people I know use WhatsApp, banking and energy companies are all accessed by apps now. Crazy stuff!! Xx

You sound just like us Kareema... it's all brilliant while it works, isn't it - then it stops and we fall apart!! Yet we lived without ANY of it when we were younger, didn't we: I do wonder how we did though, lol 😆

Hi Catherine I really enjoyed your post and felt your frustration as I came across the same issue myself this week I first noticed there was no Wi-Fi when I tried to play my favourite is game on my iPad I don't think frustrating covers how I felt I was like a I'm baby with out its dummy then there was no Netflix that I RELY ON to pass away the night because I cant sleep with pain I'm suffering from ordinary TV programs have too many Adverts and that to me is nearly as bad as no WFI but thats another story of frustration for another time ,getting back to not able to play my games that I have relied on because I have been on death door with illnesses the past few months made me realise how sad I have become and I should find some other thing to do when Technology lets me down

Oh Avril-Joy I'm so sorry to hear you're going through such a tough time, I know how TV can really help to take your mind off chronic pain... I suffer from sciatica and have had two really bad episodes the last couple of months where I was unable to move without screaming in pain for a week each time. Binge-watching a comedy show really helps, anything upbeat does in fact, but you're right that we need something that's not so reliant on technology (thankfully my wifi went down while my back was good so I didn't need TV for any distraction).

For Christmas I got a paint by numbers painting and although I haven't started it yet, I know it's there as and when I need to do something to take my mind off being completely immobile. Have you considered something like that? And reading! I have so many books that I need to read so I wondered if that might help you too? Sending you my best wishes and lots of healing vibes my lovely xx

Crikey...I can't believe your local Co-Op had to shut its doors because of wi-fi!! That's insane. A bit scary too, really, to realise how much we rely on it, isn't it?!

I have to admit I was shocked when our neighbour told us Co-op was shut, Suzy!! I guess the credit card machines are the main thing, but I’m sure they must need WiFi for restocking, ordering, accounting, etc. And maybe staff wages too as they’re all franchises…? How did we do ANYTHING before the internet?!! 🙈😆
