I am SO with you: I'm at the point now even where the use of the word "cosy" gives me the rage. I absolutely hate autumn. I find it so depressing living in darkness for months on end, and there's no amount of snuggling under blankets that makes it any more acceptable to me. Or anything involving pumpkins.

Something that's always struck me about this is that I don't think I've ever met anyone in "real" life who loves autumn or winter (I honestly think most Scottish people I know would think you were winding them up if you tried to tell them how wonderful autumn is!), so, like you, I was genuinely surprised when I realised that, on the internet it's the other way round, and it's rare to find someone who doesn't rave about it. I just can't see anything to like, and all the things other people talk about, like roaring fires and snuggly blankets etc seem to rely on having a lovely house with an open fire, and loads of extra time to sit around reading, drinking hot chocolate etc. You never seem to see people romanticising having to do the school run in the pitch dark and driving rain, before coming home to sit at a desk for hours, which is probably closer to reality for most of us!

I think you're right about the no one in real life liking autumn, Amber... it's definitely a social media phenomenon, LOL 😂

The idealised version of autumn does appeal to me I guess - but for most of us (in the UK, at least) it's nothing like that, is it?! Soggy is the word that sums up autumn to me, and oh god YES to having to do morning stuff in the dark all the time: and I'm in the south with much more daylight than you overall! You have more right than me to moan, hehe x

As a AZ desert dweller, I do like Autumn. I don’t like the early night. I am like you, rather have sun until 8-9 PM.

I don’t like cold, early nights, gust of freezing wind… we don’t have rain here EVER so that’s a plus.

I am happy two weeks of the year, between Spring and Summer and between Summer and Autumn 🤣

Nobody ever wants what they have, do they Pilar?! 😆

Though the idea of no rain (or at least just a *bit* at night, enough to keep the plants and grass happy but not enough to saturated the ground) does appeal...!

I managed to stretch summer out this year by going to Florida for 10 days in October and now we have weather in the mid-80s F in Southern California. So far, so good. But I am soooooo glad Halloween is over! I officially loathe Halloween now because it's so overdone. I am so tired of pumpkins and pumpkin spiced lattes! I try to incorporate brown into my wardrobe but I still haven't quite found an attractive brown wardrobe. Brushed suede and faux suede in autumnal colors are nice. The real solution for eliminating autumn and winter is to move to Florida, which is tropical and heavenly during those seasons and the sun is blinding. However, I could never take the hurricanes and humidity during the summer.

I can imagine if you don't like Halloween in the US it can get quite tiresome, Liz - we do do Halloween here but NOTHING like on the scale it's done in North America. It doesn't last long here and we then have Bonfire Night on 5th November and that's hideous if you have pets who are petrified of fireworks like our poor Suki 😢... people let off fireworks for several nights and at random hours over the nearest weekend, not just on the 5th. And often in the day too because I'm sure it's a bit of a laugh for them. It absolutely boils my pi$$...!!

Anyway I love the idea of long hot summers like Florida gets but not necessarily the humidity, though I'm sure AC is commonplace; homes in the UK do not have AC so when we DO get hot days it's unbearable! Never happy, lol x

And I thought it was only me that has an "Autumn Aversion"!

It seems to be an "in real life" thing that people dislike autumn, Joy - seems to be the done thing to have to love autumn online and on social media! 😜

Another autumn-sceptic here! Though I am resenting it less this year than usual - perhaps because summer was such a long, wet squib. I'm a spring girl, and am looking forward to January because I don't like Christmas and I have convinced myself that the first snowdrops herald spring's return 😆 However: autumn colour palettes ARE gorgeous...

I love spring too, Lizzie, though I do love Christmas mostly for the family aspect. I just wish it wasn't so cold, I'd happily have Christmas in the heat like Down Under! But then I don't want winter over June/July/August either because my birthday is in July. I think I just need to have several houses around the world that I can move to wherever the season suits me the most!! If only 😄

Totally agree! I hate this wet weather and don't get me started on the arthritic pain....

Yep, I'm with you on the painful joints front, Jane - another thing I've discovered as I've got older that adds to my disdain for this time of year...! x

I'm with you on this one,Catherine, especially as I live in a country town where autumn is mud, cold, slippery and wet! I suspect it's the city dwellers who create this romantic Autumn as they drive out to the pumpkin fields🙄 and drink their pumpkin spice latte🙄🙄

I helped on a school trip to London one year and the country children were mad for scuffing their feet through the plane tree leaves in Whitehall - they were dry,not like in the country!

Country autumn leaves are most definitely NOT dry, Tresi, are they?! I'm sure people who don't live in the country have a romanticised view of autumn in the countryside and of walks in woodlands... when I think of actually doing a REAL woodland walk in October/November I'm usually discounting most routes because we'd be up to our elbows in mud!! 🙈
